Horndon entertained Basildon at the recreation ground on what turned out to be a very wet and windy day.

The toss was won by Basildon who did not hesitate to insert Horndon.
Horndon lost Paul Bennett cheeply for the second week running and this brought the inform Bip Keeping to the wicket to join 15 year old Danny Joyce. Together they put on a substantial partnership before Joyce, after scoring 44 valuable runs, was caught.
Sachin Khartade joined Keeping and continued the quick scoring tempo until he was dismissed for 31 runs. Mendes (21 not out) and Keeping (84 not out) took the total to 200 for 3 upon which the declaration was called.

Basildon set about chasing the total in search of 18 points but lost 2 early wickets through the accurate bowling of Mendes and Osbourne. First Blerkom and then the ever dangerous Sangani fell victim to the accurate pace onslaught. Dave Goldstone claimed 2 more quick wickets before the rains came and made play extremely difficult for the fielding side. Daw (84 not out) and Stace (65 not out) tried to catch the ever elusive total but, amidst the dark and rain, fell just 6 runs short of the total. The Basildon innings closed on 195 for 5.

Horndon’s captain said, “ We were really happy to have got a game in and claimed a few more valuable points. Both teams wanted to play and pick up as many points as possible after we’d heard that the other top teams had called their games off.”
