Horndon on the Hill Sunday Indoor X1 v Grays & Chadwell on Sun 18 Feb 2007 at 11.05 am
Horndon on the Hill Won 21 runs
Not as comfortable a victory as would seem on first sight for the Sunday team. Having been put in to bat by Grays, after 6 overs there were only 43 runs on the board and the score did not look like going much past 100. Bip retired on 25 and then DJ and Ted raised the tempo a little,Ted finally going in the tenth over caught off the wall after Renters had previously charged down the wicket and got stumped. Danny came back from retirement to end up on 51 not out and hit some lusty blows to push Horndon's score along to 121.
This would be a fairly challenging total normally, but Grays came out with guns blazing, none more so than Paul Challis who ended up on 33 not out. Horndon's bowling early on left a lot to be desired and after only 6 overs Grays were on 62 runs -- halfway to the total required. But Barney and Bip slowed them down towards the end and made them take chances with their running, resulting in 3 runouts.
With 36 required from the last 2 overs,Grays were then on the back foot and even though Challis came back to the crease Horndon were in control and just had to bowl tight lines, which they did.
16 points to the lads and still in contention for the league, but the bowling has got to improve if they are to be serious contenders. With the return of Max next week this may go some way towards giving them a chance.
