Horndon on the Hill Won 91 runs
An emphatic win for the 1's in the end after posting an imposing total of 140 for Belhus to chase. However,things were looking a little shaky at the beginning,with the openers struggling to come to terms with a new ball that was swinging quite viciously. Bip went early on for 2 after having ridden his luck a little by dancing down the track and Max was an early victim to a run-out. At 17 for 2 from 3 overs a score in the region of 120 looked like hard work,but Liam hung around and batted very sensibly before having to retire on 25,which brought Danny to the crease and he carried on the good work,assisted by Stitto.The third wicket fell at 106 in the ninth over with Stitto being caught and by this time Horndon were in cruise mode. Liam came back after Danny retired and pushed the score along with Twixy until he got out in the last over. Danny then came back from retirement to see the score to 140. The Belhus bowling,after the first few overs,was quite abysmmal and they bowled 28 wides and no-balls to turn a 12 over innings into almost 17 overs.
Belhus came out of the traps fast in the first 2 overs of their innings,running 3's and batting positively,but after Michael Cansdale was caught from the last ball of the second over they started to go backwards a little. The Horndon bowlers found their rhythm and started to make life very difficult which forced the Belhus batsmen into rash shots and the wickets soon tumbled. They managed to last for 11.3 overs but were going nowhere. Bip and Max picked up 2 wickets each with Liam bowling well for his 1 wicket and old-timer Stitto taking a great reaction catch in the corner to round off the proceedings.
All in all a good performance and a maximum 20 points for the defending champions.
