Playing against 5-man Stanford,horndon nearly threw the game away when it came to chasing the target. Stanford batted well to get to 102 with Ross Poulton & Michael Gray playing their shots and hitting the back wall regularly. Max's spell slowed them down a bit though and at the end they threw the bat a little too much and were bowled out with almost an over to go.
Horndon's reply was very slow starting and they did not exploit the gap in the field due to Stanford only having 5 players. After 8 overs we were on 59 runs with 44 required from the last 4 overs. Walshy batted sensibly for his 33 and Willsy waved his wand for a quick 27 and then retired,but having to get 11 an over from the last 4 overs was not the position the boys should have been in.
Fortunately Michael Gray had to bowl for Stanford and at the start of the 11th over Horndon needed 28 to win the game,which they subsequently got from his last over.
Maximum points then but food for thought for the last two games if we are to be involved at the finish,our running game must be sharper.
