Horndon under 15's pulled off another surprise victory for the emerging youth set up of the borough side.Playing last years National finalist in the 2nd round of the Peters Cup Horndon started te game as underdogs away to Hadleigh and Thundersley .
Jo Joyce skippering the side lost the toss and was asked to bowl in this 2o over game. Hadleigh openers took advantage of some loose bowling and fielding and added 32 before youngster Sam Howard dismissed T Phillippe for 20. Howard was the pick Of the bowling with figures of 2 for 10 off 4 overs. Hadleigh never really got going with the innings but were assisted by some poor fielding and bowling and finished the innings with 116 off 20 overs. This included 30 extras with all bowlers but Jo Joyce2 for 9 off 2 overs going around the park. 116 on an uneaven surface was never going to be easy. Frankie Paisley fell for 0 slipping on a damp surface and hitting his own wicket before Jo Joyce and number 3 Ryan Plom decided to get stuck into the home side. With a stand of 42 the game started to turn Horndons way. With the score at 44 and Joyce on 25 he fell to a good delivery by Webstaff. Inform Ryan Plom was not going to be denied and took the challenge to Hadleigh and eventually retired on 51 before the game was closed out by Connor Price 10 not out and Gary Ginsburg. Once again extras assited the batting side with Hadleigh conceeding 31 to help Horndon to a win by 8 wickets. Horndon skipper Jo Joyce commented " our fielding was appauling but Ryan batted extremely well to take us to victory. Overall we know we need to improve in the field to go further in the compitition but this was a good victory over he national finalists last year.
